What a good BOQ contains
One row per item, with these columns:
- Department and room (for example, Anatomy, dissection hall)
- Item name
- Specification or model requirements
- Quantity and unit
- Notes, such as preferred brand or size
Step by step
- List your departments and rooms for the year you are setting up.
- Start from a department list, such as the lists on this website, and tick what you need.
- Set quantities from your own plan: number of students per batch, rooms, beds and the current official norms.
- Add specifications for major items; choose a standard or advanced version, or ask a supplier to suggest one.
- Combine common items across departments (chairs, almirahs, centrifuges) to see total quantities.
- Get quotations from suppliers on the same BOQ, so prices compare line by line.
- Finalise and issue purchase orders, keeping the BOQ as your master record.
Common mistakes
- Forgetting furniture for offices, faculty rooms, museums and teaching rooms.
- Leaving specifications blank on expensive items, which makes quotes hard to compare.
- Counting the same item twice in two departments without noticing.
Do it faster with our list builder
