Phase 1: before you apply
The college and hospital are expected to meet the standards on the date of application. That means the teaching hospital's equipment, the common college facilities (lecture theatres, library, skills lab, hostels, offices) and the first-year departments should be installed and working before you apply.
Phase 2: each new MBBS year
Departments are taught in phases. A college starting its first batch focuses on first-year departments such as Anatomy, Physiology and Biochemistry. Departments taught in later years, such as Pathology, Microbiology and Pharmacology, are equipped as those batches arrive, alongside growing clinical departments. Check your affiliating university and NMC's timetable for when each must be ready.
Phase 3: hospital growth and PG courses
As patient load grows and postgraduate courses are added, specialty equipment follows: ICU and critical care, imaging, operation theatre and super-specialty items.
Lead times and installation
- Furniture and common lab equipment usually arrive in weeks; imaging, large analysers and modular items can take months.
- Plan site readiness (power, water, gas lines, space) before delivery, so equipment can be installed at once.
- Ask for installation and demonstration reports; keep them with invoices.
Paperwork to keep
- Department-wise lists of what was bought, with quantities.
- Invoices, installation reports and warranty cards.
- Service and calibration records for equipment that needs them.
Organised records make inspections and later audits much easier.
